Fishing
The fishing on this private estate is one of the largest continuous stretches of prime chalk steam in the UK. Situated on the lower river Test, close to Romsey, Hampshire, it is a truly unforgettable experience for any angler.
The river Test, known for its gin-clear waters, is considered by some the birthplace of modern fly fishing, and Broadlands Estate is one of the most famous and sought-after beats on the river.
The beat is divided into three sections, each offering a different fishing experience. The top beat is known for its fast-flowing water, while the middle beat is perfect for dry fly fishing. The lower beat, meanwhile, is characterised by slow-moving water and deep pools, providing an excellent opportunity to catch larger fish.
The fish population on the Broadlands Estate beat is diverse and abundant, with both wild and stocked trout and grayling. The average size of fish is around 1-2 lbs, but larger specimens can be found in the deeper pools. The catch and release policy at Broadlands ensures that the river’s ecosystem remains healthy and sustainable.
Fishing at Broadlands is a serene and peaceful experience, with beautiful scenery and wildlife providing the perfect backdrop for a day on the river. The estate is also home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, including kingfishers, otters, and mayflies, making it a haven for nature enthusiasts.
